Department of Surgery,
Adult
Services
Tufts Medical Center's Department of
Surgery provides a complete range of general surgical
services and surgical specialties. Among these are
four leading multidisciplinary centers of which
the hospital is extremely proud. The
Transplant Surgery and Cardiothoracic
Surgery units have long been regional and national
standouts. More recently, the three multidisciplinary
specialty centers — the Breast
Health Center, the Pancreatico-Biliary
Diseases Center and
the Obesity
Consult Center — have won praise and a loyal
following.

The Department of Surgery also features services for the intestinal tract,
head and neck, breast, biliary tree, pancreas, spleen, endocrine and vascular
systems as well as trauma.
The ultra-modern main operating room suite is equipped for the most sophisticated
surgical procedures including choledochoscopy, ultrasonic surgery, implantation
of perfusion devices, videoangioscopy and laser surgery. The recovery room and
adjacent surgical intensive care unit are staffed by attending physicians and
residents on a 24-hour basis.
The department also is a leader in the area of minimally invasive surgery.
